LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) -Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director has criticized two of his players for changing jerseys with Lionel Messi during and after the team's 3-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona.

Rudi Voeller told Thursday's edition of German daily Bild that the eagerness of defenders Michal Kadlec and Manuel Friedrich to acquire the Argentina star's shirt on Tuesday was "definitely a bit too much."

Bild reported that Kadlec exchanged shirts with Messi at halftime, only for Friedrich to take it from him after a fight outside the changing rooms.

Kadlec, who scored Leverkusen's goal, then exchanged shirts a second time after the final whistle.

Voeller is unhappy the two players allowed themselves be star-struck by Messi when "90 percent of the team was fully concentrated on the game."

"I guarantee that Kadlec and Frederick will auction their Messi jerseys for a good cause," he said after promising to speak to the two defenders.

Leverkusen plays the second leg of the round-of-16 tie in Barcelona on March 7.
