Wang Yuemin, a senior at Fudan U. in Shanghai, took part in a successful online protest to get air-conditioners in Fudan's dormitories.

Wang Yuemin and her roommates were tired of being hot. For too long they had endured Shanghai's sweltering summer heat with nothing but ceiling fans in their dormitories at Fudan University, one of China's top institutions, and finally decided that they could endure no more.

So, last year, they decided to protest on the Internet, specifically on Renren.com, a Chinese social-networking site similar to Facebook, and used almost exclusively by college students. They were not alone.
