ATHENS, Greece (AP) ? Greece's coalition government has warned that letting the country fall out of the euro currency union would spell "suicide for the eurozone."
Evangelos Venizelos, the Socialist party leader and junior coalition partner, made the remarks Thursday, when senior European officials were in Athens to inspect Greece's shaky public finances and the future of its rescue loan program.
Parties in the month-old Greek government have finalized proposals to slash ?11.5 billion ($14.1 billion) in government spending over two years.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is visiting Athens and is holding hold talks with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. The heads of an inspection team from European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank are also in the Greek capital.
