Oman- Charity bazaar organised for Japan quake victims

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Oman's Embassy in Tokyo hosted a 'Charity Bazaar' organised by the Association of Arab Ambassadors' Wives in Japan to raise funds for the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in that country.

Titled 'Hand in Hand with Japan', the bazaar was inaugurated by Princess Takamado in the presence of the wife of the Japanese prime minister and other Japanese and Arab dignitaries.

The event, which received wide coverage in the Japanese media, was attended by some 4,000 people who showed up despite heavy rains in the Japanese capital on the day.

On display were products, handicrafts, costumes, jewellery, perfumes, foodstuffs and sweets from various Arab countries. There was as separate corner for calligraphy and a tent for henna.

Abeer bint Abdulra'ouf bin Ahmed, wife of Oman's ambassador and Chairperson of the Association of the Arab Ambassadors' Wives in Japan, said the event aimed a conveying the sympathy of the Arab peoples to their Japanese counterparts in their hour of crisis.

"It also aims at alleviating the suffering and pain of those affected by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as enhancing Arab-Japanese cultural exchange," she added. She thanked members of the association for their contributions in making the bazaar a big success.
